When the South Whidbey boys start high school soccer playoffs on Saturday, they will be trying to kick their way out of the basement.

In a meet that was almost over before it began Thursday, South Whidbey wrestlers pinned three straight opponents to start the event and cruised to a 52-21 win over Granite Falls.
With its wrestlers competing in almost every weight category — a rarity for this point in the season — South Whidbey put the moves on the competition in Klahowya Saturday to place third in an eight-team tournament.
Proving that South Whidbey wrestlers are the toughest anywhere, no matter what their size, the Falcons’ smallest wrestler took the weight of the entire team on his shoulders Thursday and carried it.
